Earthy Craftsman Paint Colors
A renovation of this home also included cedar shingles, copper gutters, and shutters to restore the house to its former Arts and Crafts styling. This style of porch column is usually wider at the base than at the top and might feature carved details, as seen on this Craftsman bungalow. The design reinforces the traditional look of the exterior while offering sturdy support for the roof. When a young couple bought this stately brick house, they knew it had great bones and wouldn't require too much work.
While the age old question of whether you should paint a brick house or not remains, a fresh coat of white on this Georgian-style house was just the refreshing look the mid-1960s redbrick needed without diminishing the home's character. The earliest Google Maps Street View image of the house is from September 2007, and shows a white van and a small box truck parked outside. The next available image after 2007 is from 2011, and by then, the exterior of the house was visibly dilapidated, suggesting that the Astlings might not have been living at the residence full-time.

The term "cottage" is derived from the medieval word "cotter," which refers to a person who lived in a small, humble dwelling on a lord's estate. The 35-year-old actress renovated the residence, building a guest house with its own living room, kitchen, bedroom suite, and laundry room.
Extending outward from the roof, these pop-out areas can boost usable living space on the upper level, often limited by the low-pitched roof.
